When Is the Best Time for a Maternity Boudoir Session?
One of the most common questions I get about maternity boudoir is:
"When should I schedule my session?"
And honestly, it's a great question because your body is changing constantly during pregnancy.
While every woman and every pregnancy is different, I generally recommend scheduling your maternity boudoir session between 28 and 36 weeks.
Why?
Because by that point, your bump is usually beautifully defined and unmistakably pregnant, which is often exactly what we're trying to celebrate and preserve.
Could you do it earlier?
Absolutely.
But many women find that waiting until the third trimester creates the look they're envisioning when they think about maternity portraits.
Why I Love Maternity Boudoir
I've heard pregnancy is one of those seasons of life that feels like it lasts forever while you're living it and somehow passes in the blink of an eye once it's over.
One day your bump seems small.
The next, you're wondering where your feet went.
That's what I love about maternity boudoir.
It gives you a chance to pause for a moment and celebrate everything your body is doing before this chapter becomes a memory.
What If You Don't Feel Beautiful Right Now?
This is another concern I hear all the time.
Many women tell me they want maternity photos, but they're waiting until they feel more confident. Less swollen. More like themselves.
The truth is, there may never be a perfect moment.
Pregnancy is constantly changing your body, and that's exactly why these photographs matter.
Years from now, you won't be focused on the swollen ankles or the random cravings. You'll remember carrying your child, the anticipation, the excitement, and the love that came with it.
That's what these photographs preserve.
Many women assume they need to feel confident before booking a session. In reality, confidence is often one of the things they leave with. You may enjoy reading Think Boudoir Isn't For You? Let's Talk About It.
What Should You Wear?
The good news is that maternity boudoir doesn't require an entirely new wardrobe.
Some women choose lingerie.
Others prefer robes, fitted dresses, or simple fabrics draped around their body.
I've photographed maternity sessions with little more than a sheet and beautiful light.
The goal isn't to hide your bump.
It's to celebrate it.
The best outfit is usually the one that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and like yourself.

More Than Just Photographs
At the end of the day, maternity boudoir isn't really about lingerie or posing.
It's about documenting one of the most significant transformations a woman can experience.
It's about celebrating strength, anticipation, and love.
For many women, maternity boudoir becomes one chapter in a much larger story of self-celebration, personal growth, and documenting important milestones throughout life.
And someday, when you look back at these photographs, I hope you don't just see your baby bump.
I hope you remember the incredible woman who carried it.
